Update – Venice wins the 71st edition of the Regatta of the Maritime Republics
Venice (green boat) wins the 71st edition of the Regatta of the Maritime Republics held on the Arno River in Pisa. The host city, however, makes up for it with the splendid victory of the women’s crew: the women’s regatta sees the girls of the Pisa red boat emerging victorious.
See you next edition!

The next edition of the Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics in Pisa will take place in four years, as the event rotates annually among the four historic Republics (Pisa, Venice, Genoa, and Amalfi).
However, you can enjoy the other events of the ‘Giugno Pisano’ (Pisan June) in Pisa every year, including the Luminara (June the 16th), the Regatta of Saint Ranieri (June the 17th), and the Gioco del Ponte.
Program and Times of the 2026 Maritime Republics Regatta in Pisa
On Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026, Pisa will host the 71st edition of the Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics (Regata delle Repubbliche Marinare). This thrilling historical event features crews from the four legendary medieval Italian maritime powers—Amalfi, Pisa, Genoa, and Venice—competing in a spectacular rowing race along the Arno River.
As a rotating event, the Regatta returns to Pisa only once every four years. It offers a unique opportunity for citizens and international tourists to witness the magnificent historical parade along the riverbanks (Lungarni), followed by the traditional rowing challenge.
The official schedule for the day is as follows: (You can visit the official event website here: repubblichemarinare.org)
-
3:15 PM (Arno River): Women’s Regatta. Starting from Ponte Solferino and finishing at Scalo Renaioli.
-
3:45 PM (Lungarni): Start of the Historical Parade of the Ancient Maritime Republics. The pageant will depart from Lungarno Fibonacci, marching across Ponte della Fortezza, Lungarno Mediceo, Ponte di Mezzo, and Lungarno Galilei, before arriving at Scalo Renaioli.
-
5:30 PM (Arno River): Men’s Regatta. Starting from Ponte sull’Aurelia and finishing at Scalo Renaioli.
Road Closures and Traffic Modifications in Pisa on June 2nd
To accommodate the massive event, the Lungarni (the main streets running along the Arno River) will be completely closed to vehicular traffic. Driving near the event venue will be extremely difficult due to heavy crowds, temporary parking bans, and strict traffic diversions managed by the local police. Street parking spaces close to the riverfront will be entirely inaccessible or saturated from early morning.
